Anuj and his wife are no stranger to planting trees. They grow their own vegetables and have planted five – yes five – trees in their Hillingdon garden over the last seven years. But it was the death of their beloved, tree loving pooch that triggered them to sponsor a street tree with Trees for Streets.
Greening a busy road
Living on a busy A road, Anuj appreciates the benefits his tree will bring to the area; serving as a sound barrier to the constant traffic noise and improving air quality. On a personal level, he’s delighted at his new view with the beautiful foliage of the Crimson Hawthorn planted. He’ll soon see more birds and insects too. He adds that sponsoring a tree is “a great way to improve your house’s curb appeal” and that street trees give a neighbourhood feel to an area.
A lasting memorial

Anuj found the process of sponsoring a tree with Trees for Streets very convenient via his council’s website. Hillingdon offer a range of price options depending on whether you can offer to regularly water your sponsored tree or would prefer the council take this on.
Anuj is happy to do this himself so he’s now looking after his street tree as well as the others in his garden. It’s not much of a chore to step outside and water an extra tree, and it keeps him connected to the pet that brought him so much love and joy over the years.
Get involved
As well as a street tree, you can also have a commemorative tree planted in a local park or green space to mark special events, special people or special pets. There’s also a crowdfunding option so that friends and family, community groups or neighbours can all chip in to sponsor a new tree.
What better way to celebrate a special birthday, wedding or anniversary? You’ll be improving your neighbourhood for the long-term for everyone and creating a new home for local wildlife.
