Harrow resident Jennifer tells us about the tree she sponsored on behalf of her husband and their local community.

Many Happy Returns

Sponsoring a tree is a celebration of life – of the tree itself, of course, but also of those we love. A new arrival on your street can enrich the lives of everybody around – both now and for generations to come. Fresher air from carbon containment, aesthetic appeal, a wildlife sanctuary…trees really are as extraordinary as those who care for their wellbeing.

The new tree in question? Sponsored by Jennifer on behalf of her husband – a wonderful tree gift for his birthday and the neighbourhood.

He loves our home and is always making sure it’s well-maintained. Sponsoring a new tree seemed like a perfect way to celebrate his birthday and improve the look of our street.”

Celebrating more urban nature

Studies have shown that spending time in and around nature each day has a marked positive effect on physical and mental wellbeing. A familiar tree can be a part of this: capturing your eyes with colourful leaves in the morning sun or shielding you from the rain on your way home.

It’s a small detail in a big picture…but a meaningful one.

You’re Invited!

Just as we celebrate birthdays with friends and family, could the same be arranged for nature?

Jennifer believes the new tree in her neighbourhood – and many others like it – could have a positive impact on her street. She’s not just decided to gift a tree; she’s gifted a living legacy that will support her community for generations.

“The new tree will add aesthetic value to the street, provide shade and potentially increase local biodiversity. It also serves as a symbol of environmental action – hopefully inspiring others in the community to take similar actions.”

In Harrow and other areas, ‘greening up’ has seen communities banding together to help build back their natural spaces. It’s a party for everyone – you can find out if your local area has a street tree sponsorship scheme by clicking through this link: https://sponsor.treesforstreets.org/start

As Jennifer reflects, “There needs to be more greenery near our homes, to improve air quality and to enhance the natural beauty of our community.”
