For Kathleen, Graves Park isn’t just a green space – it’s the backdrop to a lifetime of family memories.

Sheffield resident Kathleen grew up in the area and played in Graves Park as a child. So when she found out she could sponsor a tree in it, she decided to sponsor two in memory of her family that she’d spent so many happy years with in the park.

“I was going to sponsor a bench,” she told us, “but then a neighbour mentioned you can sponsor trees now. My mum and brother lived here all their lives, and now when I go to the bottom of my garden, I can see the trees. That’s really special.”

Choosing the perfect memorial tree

As a lifelong nature lover, Kathleen had a clear vision for the trees she wanted: white blossom in spring and bright red berries in winter, which came in the form of a whitebeam and wild service tree, both great species for the birds and wildlife she cares for so deeply.

At home, she shares her garden with foxes, birds, and a family of badgers who visit every night. “Everybody thinks I’m absolutely loopy by encouraging the badgers,” Kathleen told us, “but they’ve had three cubs this year, they’re beautiful.”

A growing community of tree sponsors

By sponsoring her Celebration Trees, Kathleen joins a growing movement of people across the UK who want to give something meaningful back to their local environment. You can find out if you can sponsor a tree on your street or local park by clicking here
