Sponsor a tree

Let’s fill London’s streets with trees

MAYOR’S SPONSORSHIP MATCH

We’re proud to announce that The Mayor of London has partnered with us, at Trees for Cities, to fund up to 1,000 new trees in priority areas across the city.

Through our tree sponsorship scheme, Trees for Streets, this project will help green the grey in some of London’s most deprived neighbourhoods.

For every tree sponsored by a resident or local business in a participating borough, the Mayor will sponsor one further tree.

And you can take part by sponsoring a tree in one of our participating boroughs*.

instant impact

These trees are semi-mature 7-9 year old specimens that are between 3-4 metres high, so they have an immediate impact on their surroundings, helping to provide shade and tackle flooding, as well as improving the health and wellbeing of local residents.

Where will the extra trees
be planted?

The Mayor’s sponsored trees will all be planted in priority locations, such as areas where there is low canopy cover, deprived neighbourhoods, school streets and children’s playgrounds.

Who can get involved?

Local residents and businesses can request to sponsor a tree in a location of their choice, whether outside their house or in their neighbourhood. They can also volunteer to take on the job of watering these trees – a vital part of making sure they survive.

The big picture

The scheme is available in Barnet, Ealing, Croydon, Haringey, Harrow, Hillingdon, Islington, and Tower Hamlets.

Our long-term vision for London is to have 20-25 boroughs participating, adding 200+ trees a year each, which will amount to 50,000 sponsored street trees over 10 years. Each tree will represent a resident who’s made a difference to the nature on their doorstep, or a local business who’s put something back in their community.

Q. What if my London borough isn’t taking part?

A. If your council isn’t participating in this scheme yet, and you’d like to sponsor a tree in your area, you can ask them to join by sending an Expression of Interest.  All you have to do is fill in a short form giving your details – this will let your council know that you’d like to get involved.
It also means that if they do join Trees for Streets later, you’ll be the first to know!

Making London greener

Sponsorship brings another strand of funding potential to local authorities to help boost their planting numbers. Many local residents and businesses want to contribute to the effort to green our city, and Trees for Streets provides an easy mechanism to facilitate this.
